On the way back from Milford Sound we did a little sight seeing and hiking (tramping). The Chasm was amazing, and the gigantic rocks which have been rounded and sculpted over thousands of years were spectacular. The piece of wood is actually a large fallen tree.
In the parking lot there was a Kea bird, who was quite friendly. It is recommended to stay several feet away, because the Kea's beak can tear through leather boots!

You are one brave woman, to go over far enough to look over into the chasm, in the photo with the fallen tree. It makes me woozie, just to see the photo...
